The Haven Residence, located in downtown Charleston, South Carolina is intended to be a safe space for veterans to reside. The industrial facility was designed using a muted, earth-based color palette to create a peaceful, yet engaging environment that eases and discourages symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The residence was also designed in compliance with the needs of COVID-19. Circulation paths are wider, gathering spaces are larger, and creative uses of vegetation as subtle partitions encourage physical distancing, while still allowing safe socializing. Additionally, copper fixtures and anti-microbial paint were chosen to decrease both bacterial and viral transmissions through commonly-touched surfaces.
